Requirements (Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification):
2 years’ experience in Security or corrections.
1year minimum supervisory experience.
1year minimum residential experience.
An Associate’s Degree is preferred.
Licensure and Certification Requirements
Possession of a valid Ohio Operator’s License, with proof of financial responsibility (auto insurance).
Job Duties (Summary):
Be aware of resident treatment plans and needs and assists residents in working toward their completion.
Performs intake of new residents as needed.
Maintains and provides all operational ACA and DRC audit documentation
Responds to resident needs and conflicts in a preventive fashion.
Enforces program rules and regulations.
Assures resident movement follows agency procedures.
Conducts and documents urinalysis program according to established procedures.
Assists in the supervision of resident visitation and sees that required documentation is completed.
Maintains overall order within the facility and its premises.
Documents all shift activities in a substantial and comprehensive manner and reviews daily shift logs from each area.
Prepares and distributes shift briefings when responsible for shift supervision duties.
When necessary conducts visual head counts, facility shakedowns and resident searches according to established procedures.
Documents all such activities.
Supervises, directs and evaluates completion of resident housekeeping assignments within areas of responsibility.
Ensures necessary cleaning supplies are available and utilized properly.
Adheres to facility policies and procedures regarding supervision of resident use of tools, supplies and equipment.
Strictly adheres to key control system established by the facility.
Exchanges information with on-coming and departing shifts.
Transports residents to community resources as needed.
Advises the Operations Director regarding any maintenance, first aid equipment and fire safety equipment needs.
Reports any other matters concerning safety, sanitation and security which require attention.
Supports, cooperates and works with other facility staff in meeting program needs.
Works with the Security Manager and the Director of Security to continuously upgrade the effectiveness and efficiency of the relevant areas of responsibility.
Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to information obtained and processed in the operation of the facility.
May schedule staff, trains staff, provide timely evaluations, performs payroll functions for staff and disciplinary process as necessary.
Works effectively with residents to ensure safety of all residents and staff.

Ability to supervise staff within a correctional setting.
Ability to prepare reports and maintain records.
Skill in planning and problem solving.
Knowledge of sociology, psychology, criminal justice and other social sciences.
Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents and co- workers.
Ability to work under stressful and demanding conditions.
Ability to deal with aberrant behavior.
Ability to remain calm in tense situations.
Visual ability sufficient to effectively operate office equipment including calculator, copier, facsimile machine and computer.
Ability to read and prepare reports with recommendations, correspondence, instructions, policies and procedures.
Hearing ability sufficient to hold conversation with other individuals both in person and over a telephone and to hear recordings on a Dictaphone.
Speaking ability sufficient to communicate effectively with other individuals in person and over a telephone.
Skills in oral and written communication.
Visual ability to read and prepare reports.
