POSITION: High SchoolClassroom Teacher– Juvenile Rehabilitation Center (JRC) & Juvenile Detention Center (JDC)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Butler County Juvenile Justice Center seeks qualified and compassionate High School Teachers to join our dedicated team in educating incarcerated youth in Math, English, Social Studies, and Science in an alternative setting.
As a teacher at our facility, you will play a crucial role in positively impacting the lives of young individuals by providing them with educational opportunities and support.
QUALIFICATIONS: · Bachelor’s degree · Valid High School Ohio Teaching License · Exemplary knowledge of pedagogical best practices and curriculum · Experience in differentiating instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including those with various academic backgrounds and abilities.
· Ability to utilize restorative practices and trauma-informed teaching approaches to create a supportive educational atmosphere.
· Knowledge of effective behavior management strategies to maintain a positive and focused learning environment.
· Experience in implementing engaging and culturally responsive lesson plans that align with state standards.
· Proven ability to model a positive image in dress, behavior, language, and attitude · Proven leadership and organizational skills · Willingness and ability to work as a team member · Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and community.
· Proven ability to foster collaborative efforts · Good organizational skills and detail-oriented · Physically fit with the ability to perform restraints when needed.
· History of good job attendance · Must pass criminal background checks and be free from communicable diseases.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: · Provide instruction and learning experiences that contribute to the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective development of each student · Foster a safe, inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning, respect, and personal growth.
· Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and applies principles of learning · Teaches to district-adopted curriculum · Develop lesson plans that support district-adopted curriculum · Provides opportunities for students to utilize higher-order thinking skills · Uses varied teaching tools and resources to meet the needs of all learners · Uses a variety of instructional techniques to engage learners · Plans for assessment activities and monitors student progress · Utilizes data to make instructional decisions for students · Provides opportunities for students to achieve their potential · Plans for student intervention · Manages class time · Maintains rapport with students as well as control of the classroom · Prepares and maintains school records and staffing reports · Communicate with parents/guardians as appropriate · Submits regular documentation as required · Demonstrates functional literacy in both writing and oral communication skills · Performs consistently as a team member with therapists, case managers, program directors and supervisors, JDC, JRC staff, home school personnel, and BCESC personnel · Design each student’s academic program and behavior goals in accordance with the overall educational/treatment plan · Stays informed and expands one’s personal knowledge base relative to best practices in the area of alternative education · Utilizes the professional development opportunities offered by the program · Complies with any other duties that may be assigned by supervisors · Completes all training requirements and complies with all aspects of the program · Implements all appropriate training techniques as directed · Implements de-escalation techniques effectively and efficiently · Implements restraints safely if necessary.
· Works collaboratively with the JRC and JDC staff · Reports all client complaints to appropriate management personnel and takes corrective action as directed · Performs other tasks consistent with the position as may be assigned OTHER DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS: · Be aware that his or her own physical and verbal behavior impacts the client population either positively or negatively and act accordingly · Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings · Maintain professional relationships with all other BCESC, JRC, JDC and treatment program personnel, home school personnel, and all other stakeholder group members · Follow the written policies and procedures of the BCESC and the JRC, JDC programs KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Board policy and procedures of BCESC, JRC and JDC, current technology, public relations Work successfully in a culturally diverse environment, communicate effectively; build trust; maintain files and reports, collect data, implement policies and procedures, implement restraints and de-escalation techniques in a safe manner and lift moderate amounts of weight; follow instructions; lift moderate amounts of weight; bend, sit, stoop; and transport self to worksite.
Word processing, spreadsheet, database, software applications, use of network functions, and other customary office and audio-visual equipment.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Computer, copier, fax, telephone system, audio and video players and recorders, and other customary office and audio-visual equipment.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS: : Exposure to construction hazards, dust, electrical hazards, fumes, loud noise, traffic, perform duties outside normal working hours : Exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue, inclement weather driving conditions and severe weather.
Exposure to unruly children/adults; travels to and gains access to workplace.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year as established by the Governing Board.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non - prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
